Old Indian Money
Before the 'Naya Paisa' was introduced in 1957, a rupee had 64 paisas in it. There used to be 4 paisas in an Anna, making 16 Annas in a rupee. (Giving rise to idioms such as 'Solahon Anne sahi'.) And paisa used to be so valuable that further divisions were required: 1 Taka = 2 paise/ 2p brass coin 1 Dhela=1/2 paisa 1 Chhadaam/Tukda=1/4 paisa 1 Damdi=1/8 paisa 1 Daam=1/24 paisa 1 Kaudi=1/80 paisa Do not close this window.
