b) Her husband was an athletic coach at UCLA and moulded her into a world champion.

c) She was voted as the outstanding female olympian of the past century in 1999.

a) This boxer gained fame by giving Sugar Ray Robinson his first defeat and was Middleweight Champion from 1949-51.

b) He used to take a severe beating before ferociously turning on his foe but was not knocked down in any of his 106 fights.

c) A movie 'Raging Bull' based on his autobiography starred Robert de Niro as the boxer who was known as 'the Bronx Bull'.

a) He was among the first runners to use the stopwatch in his training and learnt to measure his pace and its effects. He never raced without a stopwatch in his hand.

b) He won 9 Olympic golds and 3 silvers from 1920-28, and was not allowed to participate in 1932 on accusations of having turned professional. He won medals in 1500m, 5000m, 10000m, cross-country and 3000m steeplechase. One of his greatest achievements was to win 1500m and 5000m golds with only two hours in between the races.

c) In 1952 Olympics at Helsinki he brought the torch into the stadium and handed it over to Hannes Kolehmainen (his idol) who had won 3 golds in 1912.

a) His 385 out of a total of 500 was the highest first class score by a left-hander till Brian Lara scored 501.

b) He was nicknamed 'Kiwi Bradman'. The New Zealand cricket board awards a medal named after him for outstanding lifetime achievers.

c) The winner of this award in 2001 was Walter Hadlee who was his captain when he first joined the NZ team, and he was the one who shifted him from no. 5 to opener where he flourished.

5.
a) He took all ten wickets in an innings (for 43 runs) for Excelsior High School against Camperdown in the Sunlight cup, five as a pace bowler, and five as a leg spinner.

b) He took a hat-trick against Australia at Brisbane, 1988, in 45 hrs over two innings.

c) His test debut was against Australia at Perth on Nov 9, 1984. He did not bowl in the first innings as Australia was bowled out for 76, but in the second innings bowled 20 steady overs for 2 wickets.

6.
a) He was the first golfer to surpass $10 million in career earnings and the first player to earn $1 million four times (1990, 93, 94, 95).

b) He had the Sunday morning lead in each of the four major championships in 1986, but won only the British Open.

c) Also called 'The Shark', he is now neighbour to Jack Nicholaus, his role model and friend.
